Fuzzy Math

The developers tonight said the 421-acre quarry plus cement plant, ready mix plant, asphalt plant, and concrete pipe manufacturing plant would generate $20 million dollars in the first 5 years. But when the same group met with the McMinn County officials, they said the quarry would produce $100 million dollars in 5 years (this was also reported in the DPA).

We invite the developers to clarify in the comments section below.

  1. I don't believe either number. Like the old commercial used to say...."where's the beef?" The developers need to do a better job of sharing information.

They said the same thing about the jobs - first it was 10 jobs, then 20, now it's 60. No way I can trust these guys. One guy spoke about the "multiplier effect" and how big industry attracts other businesses and more jobs to support it. Let's ask Bowater how many additional jobs they brought in. NONE!

  3. Bowater is the only reason Calhoun was ever put on the map. And the only reason that Hardee's was built. I would hate to think of what all the old men would do if the Hardee's ever shut down. Where would they meet at 7am to complain about rock quarrys?
