Hiwassee River

Friends: We sometimes take the Hiwassee River for granted, but it, and it's tributaries, are important to our region, and the state of Tennessee.  Regardless of how other industries treat the river, we must not allow massive industry to set up along the river, destroy "blue line" streams, dry up our wells, and discharge their waste-water into the Oostanaula and Hiwassee Rivers.  If you are concerned about the water quality, tell us about it!

Rock Quarry Announced

It is official - a 421-acre rock quarry has been proposed for the growth area to the east of Calhoun, TN in McMinn County.  No, the picture above is not the quarry....just yet.  But the site along the Hiwassee River is giving many of us reason to question this proposal.  Why so big?  How many trucks per day?  What will this do to the numerous waterways, the air quality, and the quality of life in Calhoun?  There are many more questions, if you have one, send it to us!
