Friends: We sometimes take the Hiwassee River for granted, but it, and it's tributaries, are important to our region, and the state of Tennessee. Regardless of how other industries treat the river, we must not allow massive industry to set up along the river, destroy "blue line" streams, dry up our wells, and discharge their waste-water into the Oostanaula and Hiwassee Rivers. If you are concerned about the water quality, tell us about it!
As usual the proffit and greed of a few has the potential to (also known as progress) disrupt lives and lifestyles of many. I honestly don't see how anyone could support a rock quarry in this area. With the risk of damage to our enviroment the Hiwassee river needs to be protected. Look at what all the so called progress as done to our waterways,including the Hiwassee river. What happens when we destroy all our waterways? Despite what some might think, the human body cannot live off of beer. (A.K.A. Bud or Tarver dist.)

ReplyDeleteThe real facts deserve to be made public and understood by everyone. This should clear up any false beliefs or statements. The worst thing that happens in life is when a few ignorant people spread rumors that destroy what is actually good for everyone.
I suppose there are a few of you that are prepared to return to living off the earth, eating herbs and fruits.

The rest of you need jobs. Obama and his socialist state won't be around forever to take care of you. Eventually you will wish you could work at this proposed quarry. Hopefully it will be there for you when you realize you need it.
Those of you for this quarry won't be living with it in your back yard. And probably don't hunt, fish, or enjoy the woods like others. So until its in your back door, don't open your mouths about others. It will not create but only a few jobs, and it will destroy the beauty of a whole community and hundreds of acres of important wildlife habitat. Go to West Virginia and see the mining up there. Then tell people it won't destroy the surroundings or damage things closeby. You cant even drive down the roads 50 miles away there without being covered by dust and grit.Go tell your lies to someone else. Nothing good will come from this, only problems.
ReplyDeleteHave you even given thought to them shipping all this gravel by train? CSX has a track running right there. I would suppose that it costs a lot less to move it that way anyway. This proposed rock quarry is what we need to thrive.

ReplyDeleteI seriously doubt that there will be dust and grit all over the roads for 50 miles. That would mean you hit the Knoxville, Nashville split before it cleared up. That's foolish talk young man. Quit exaggerating and making up false statements and lies to scare people. Your mother would roll in her grave if she knew what you were saying.
To me this is about property rights. Whomever owns the land should be able to do whatever they with it. America, home of the free..
